'Trump without the tweets': Joe Biden unable to persuade EU he's 'reliable'

US President Joe Biden has been unable to persuade the European Union that he is any more reliable now than he was when the evacuation failed in Afghanistan, says Curtin University Professor Joe Siracusa.

"I think he paid to high a price in alienating France," Prof Siracusa told Sky News Australia.

"France hate being regarded as a small power – it still regards itself as a great power ... and they've made it very clear that you can't trust the Americans."

"I think the reason President Biden has stumbled is because most of is foreign policy is coming out of the national security establishment that he has.

"So a lot of this is driven by people with very narrow focus and they're not doing a very good job – and frankly the president hasn't persuaded anybody in Europe that he's really back."

Prof Siracusa recounted an EU chief foreign policy adviser saying all Joe Biden is – is "Trump without the tweets".
