The EU's demand for trade in Northern Ireland has been dismissed by a former Irish ambassador as "absurd". Former Irish diplomat Ray Basset mercilessly mocked the European Union for the "additional" way in which the Northern Ireland protocol was implemented. Trade deals for Northern Ireland have become the connecting point in the post-Brexit negotiations between Brussels and London.
