A devotee asked bhagwaan Raman Maharshi, who created this world? How did this world come into being? Raman Maharshi replied, did you ask this question in your sleep? Did you really care to know who created this world in your sleep? You ask this question only after you wake up. What really happens when you wake up from sleep? You become conscious of the body, and to put it more precisely you get identified with the body. And this identification with the body creates this world. Without this identification this world cannot exist. It's as real as your dream world. The dream is real for the dream. In the dream the dreamer cannot say that it's unreal. It's only after you wake do you say, o, I had a dream. Similar is the case with this waking world. For you, it is real, but for the enlightened beings, for those who have woken up to their real nature, this world has ceased to exist.
