What scares people nowadays with regards to their careers?
An important thing that tends to scare people is that "Will my health be compensated in order to advance my career?"
There is a saying written over my school walls which states, “If wealth is lost, nothing is lost; If health is lost, something is lost; If the character is lost, everything is lost.” Health is not just the concern here, but everything is. Based on the degree of comparison, we need to give the right amount of importance to each of them. So, advancing the career is important and so is our health. If there is a career concern, we can possibly find a remedy. But if there's a health concern! Most people try compensating their health, which all or at least most people wouldn't agree upon. But it doesn't mean we don't love our job; just that we don't have to necessarily love our job enough as we love ourselves. If our job gets lost, we could find a relevant one if we proceed further with confidence and the required skills. But if health gets lost, we tend to get lost as well.
Externally we might appear the same, but internally, we must also understand that our tender organs are suffering as days proceed. We may have heard one of the commandments of Jesus that says, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
How well do you love yourself? Well, by taking good care of yourself.
Okay! How to take good care of yourself? It could be by addressing your bodily necessities. It includes both physical as well as mental needs. Physical needs shall be the right amount of sleep, the right degree of cleanliness, and the right quantity of food at the right time. Mental needs shall be spending quality time with your family, trying not to feed unwanted thoughts to your brain that eventually makes you feel depressed, not allowing you to keep yourself to be entertained always - there must be some serious high valued things to pursue as well, and making morally right decisions.
Assume you are walking somewhere with your bare feet. While walking, you recognise some sort of pain in your foot and identify it as a thorn. Now, if a thorn pricks your foot, you just lift your leg, pick the pricking thorn, throw it, and continue walking. But do you keep walking by letting the thorn prick you all along your journey?
Now the thorn could be anything here. Anything that causes you pain. I use pain instead of discomfort because discomfort could also be a stepping stone that leads you to the comfort zone in the longer run. Pain is a higher degree of trouble. So, it is necessary that you have to identify the thorn first. Then you have to make the decision to remove the thorn at the right time before it causes you a greater damage to your foot. If you feel that your job is your thorn, it is time to remove the thorn id edt your job.
If you take good care of yourself, you could take better care of your beloved ones as well as the society you live in.
Love thyself!
