Health Care Unmasked with UTMB Health President Dr. Ben Raimer

In October, the University of Texas System Board of Regents approved making Dr. Ben Raimer the president of UTMB Health.

Raimer had been interim president of Galveston County's largest medical institution for 24 months.

And while he is the 8th president in the history of UTMB Health, he is no stranger to the system as he has spent more than 30 years working at UTMB after having graduated from the UTMB Medical School and then was in private practice as a pediatrician for many years.

A tenured professor in the departments of Pediatrics, Family Medicine, and Preventive Medicine and Community Health, Dr. Raimer was previously named senior vice president for the Office of Health Policy and Legislative Affairs in 2008. In 2016, he also assumed the role of executive director of the UTMB Community and Global Health Collaborating Center.

Prior to 2008, he served as vice president for the UTMB Office of Community Outreach, as chief physician executive and CEO of UTMB Correctional Managed Care, as medical director of the UTMB Primary Care Outpatient Clinics, as CEO for Community Health Services, and as chief physician executive for UT-MED (The Group Practice of Medicine at UTMB).

In this pre-recorded edition of UTMB Health's Health Care Unmasked, Raimer sits down with TJ Aulds to talk about his journey and the future of UTMB Health.
