During my upbringing, my parents imprinted permanently in our brains that we had to eat a lot, that it was a privilege to eat what we had, and that if we had leftovers - eat what we could. Well, little did I know at the time - my parents didn't have a problem getting us food - it was simply they didn't really know how to cook beyond a frozen meal from Costco, spaghetti, the whitest taco nights known to mankind, and a select few other assortments.
Well, in my high school when you became a Junior, you were able to leave campus freely. I was finally being able to go back to my house to eat at lunch instead of figuring out what slop the cafeteria was dishing out. The problem is, every now and then the pickings were a little slim in the family fridge. So, I normally broke out the Mission Tortillas (not sponsored, btw). I made burritos with leftover chili. I made burritos with leftover spaghetti. I made burritos with leftover hard-boiled eggs. Looking back, it was actually disgusting. But, Mission always pulled through and helped somehow tricked my mind that it just wasn't leftovers I was eating; it made me believe I was a culinary genius. Admittedly, the chili one wasn't too shabby - if only it didn't turn into a tortilla bowl at the end. Neat in theory, bad in practice.
I'm fat now. -Brad
