Thinking About Adolescent Mental Health with Professor Stephen Scott

Professor Stephen Scott was joined by fifty six viewers from eight schools in Thinking About Adolescent Mental Health for the first Thinking About webinar of the 2021-22 season.

Do you have questions about your, or others, mental health? Professor Stephen Scott addressed the following questions in this webinar and then invited the audience to ask questions of their own.

What do mental health professionals consider is a serious problem - what are they looking for?
What is the science underlying mental health difficulties, including genetics and the brain?
How common are issues, from anxiety and depression to eating disorders and drug & alcohol misuse?
What works to get people better? Is counselling enough?
Am I experiencing typical things for an adolescent, or am I significantly troubled?
How can I make myself happier and stronger?

Professor Scott ended with four tips for looking after your mental health:
Keep up your friendships
Keep up your skills
Look after your body
Take time for your mental well-being - try yoga or mindfulness activities
