The Audi TT Is A Superb Cheap European Sports Car
As the VW group reached the end of the '90s, their master plan began to unveil itself; at its heart was the Audi TT, a car named after a motorbike race. While this is a little peculiar, it indicated towards the TT's aspiration to be fast through traffic just like a motorbike.

The first TT, like its successors, shared the platform that would become the Audi MQB with models from each of Audi, Volkswagen, and Skoda all sharing pieces. Unfortunately, this meant the TT in some ways handled like a hatchback, especially at high speeds. Despite this, the mark 1 TT lay the foundation for the most successful sports cars of the past twenty years, triumphing over the Z3.

Partnering futuristic engineering with a design like nothing else on the road (even the contemporary Audi lineup), it shook the car industry to its core, even influencing the philosophy behind the Audi R8. At launch in 1998, the car came with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with either 180 or 225 hp; with the engine being transversely mounted, the body was kept short.
