Basic instinct of man to safeguard himself and his family from danger is natural. Now it is K K Rajesh, a construction worker of Aveli Vadakkumabhagam Kuttambuzha of Ernakulam district, who has stunned people by building a concrete fence to avoid foraging wild elephants from entering into his property.
The wild elephants that created panic among the people in the village were stopping them from even performing their daily chores. The people have mentioned this problem to several authorities and even filed a case at the High Court. But seeing no progress in any of these, Kannathanam Rajesh and his family decided to build a concrete fence around their house to safeguard themselves.

For past 10-15 years, the wild elephants have been creating a mess thereby giving them no peace of mind. The electric fence, stone masonry and ditches adjacent to the forest borders set up to prevent their attacks had created no difference.

In earlier days, elephant's raids were confined to farm and agricultural lands, but now it has reached to a point of destructing everything in sight, including pets and vehicles. The elephant even trampled cattle to death that were tied up to the farmers' stables. Once, it even smashed a car parked on the porch of a house.
It was in this place where Rajesh and his wife Raji bought a plot of land for 8 cents a year ago and settled down with their twin children who were doing primary schooling. People do not go out in the evening or dawn for fear of elephants. Even auto-rickshaws won’t be available in case of an emergency. As a complete stranger to these things, it was difficult for them to survive there.

Under this circumstance Rajesh seriously thought about an idea to escape the attack of elephants. For this, what he found as an answer was a concrete fencing around his house. Rajesh has been working in this field for past 27 years.

According to the blueprint he had in his mind, he bought cement, sand and wire and worked on his own and completed the fortified wall in a week.
Now the family has been safe for the past 3 months inside the fort. After that these wild elephants have come half a dozens of times and attacked the neighbouring houses. The story of Rajesh is an inspiration to all who believes in themselves. It shows that a strong will power can help us overcome any hurdle in our life.
He spent 75000 to build this fort.
