For Manchester United, Donny van de Beek believes he would be best served as a number 6 or 8.
After joining United from Ajax in a record-breaking £35 million transfer last summer, the 24-year-old had a rough debut season at Old Trafford.
Following that move, the Dutchman was only given four Premier League starts, and he has yet to make an appearance this season.
Talks with United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, on the other hand, have been encouraging for van de Beek, who broke his silence on his long-discussed future during a guest appearance on Rio Ferdinand's popular FIVE podcast.
The Netherlands international also highlighted his versatility in playing multiple places within the engine room while speaking at length about a variety of topics, but what does Van de Beek regard as his finest role?
When asked if he could play as a number six for United, van de Beek responded: "Yes, indeed. I like to play 8 or 6 as well, as I've mentioned before. It's all right.
"They recognize me because they used to play me at number 10 for Ajax. Yes, I can also play at the number 8 or 6 positions."
Van de Beek went on to say: "I believe I am capable of [playing as a 6], but I have no idea what the manager thinks or what he wants from me. I've previously performed this role with Ajax.
"Of course, I played number 10 at the end, but I also played number 6 a few times. This is a role that I am capable of playing. [Best posture] is a difficult question to answer.
"That depends on how well you work together as a team. For the way we play, I believe a number 6 or 8 is the best position for me.
"I don't give a damn where I'm going! It makes no difference to me where I play since I only want to play."
Van de Beek, who came through the legendary Ajax system, made 19 Premier League matches in his first season, four of them as a starter, and has won 19 caps for the Netherlands.
