Notice Period for the IBM Employee | notice period in IBM for Probation, Contract and Permanent

#Notice Period for the IBM Employee
As part of the #IBM employment contract, employees are required to serve 30 days (probation/FTH employees) or 90 days (#permanent employees). At the time of separation, if employees do not serve the required notice period, the manager can decide to recover or waive the un-served notice period. Ex: If an employee serves 80 days notice, then the remaining 10 days can be recovered or waived off by the manager.

The decision taken by the manager is indicated against the "Notice Period Action" field in the email you receive from the IBM Separations teams post the acceptance of resignation. Please check if the decision to recover or waive the un-served notice period is as per the agreement with your manager. If there is any discrepancy, please contact your manager immediately. Corrections must be completed at least 5 days prior to the last working day.

Notice period durations:

Permanent employees = 90 days

Fixed Term/Contract Hires = 30 days

Employees on probation = 30 days

How is the notice period calculated?

The notice period starts from the date of submitting resignation on Workday to the separation date. These dates are shown in the email you receive from the Separations team.

Date of submitting resignation on Workday = Resignation date

Separation date = Effective date of separation -==LDE

Notice period action types:

Waive un-served notice period:
There will be NO RECOVERY for the un-served notice period. Ex: If a permanent employee serves 30 days notice against the required 90 days, the remaining 60 days will not be recovered in the final settlement. Vacation balance is not adjusted against the notice period waiver.

Recover un-served Notice Period in:
The calculation for recovering un-served notice period is –

Notice period recovery = (Monthly Basic / 30) x Number of days to be recovered

Ex: If 60 days notice period must be recovered for an employee with a monthly basic salary of INR 25,000, then the recovery amount is INR 50,000.

{25000/30} x 60 = 50,000

Adjust Unserved Notice against leave balance & recover reminder-
In this scenario, if employee has served 80 days out of 90 and he/she has 10 days of leave balance, then there will be no recovery towards Notice period and no payment towards leave encashment. 10 days will be adjusted towards notice period shortfall

Procedure to change the notice period action:

Note: Only Manager can make changes to Notice Period action.

Any corrections to separation data such as LWD, Separation Date, notice period action, separation reason etc need to be updated on Workday 5 workdays prior to Last working day to avoid any impact to employee's payroll or final settlement.

Refer to below step by step instructions on how to make corrections on workday:

Navigate to employee's record in Workday.
Click Job=== Worker History==Search for 'Separate: Employee Name' line item==Business Process==Correct
Make necessary corrections under ‘Local Separation Reason’ ==Submit.
