Australia struggling with vaccine supply because PM is ‘allergic to responsibility’

Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers says Australia is still struggling with vaccine supply issues because Prime Minster Scott Morrison is “allergic to taking responsibility”.

Last month the government secured 85 million extra doses of the Pfizer vaccine which are expected to arrive in 2022 and 2023.

“We need more vaccines much sooner than that. I mean that’s been obvious for some time,” Mr Chalmers told Sky News Australia.

“Unfortunately, we’ve got this prime minister who is allergic to taking responsibility.

“What that means is he’s spent all of this time saying it’s not a race, he’s spent all of this time trying to blame others for the fact that he hasn’t done his job on vaccines.

"And that’s meant that even though people are trying to do the right thing, people are trying to get appointments … that’s been hard because of the supply issues and because of difficulties getting an appointment.

“So, 2022 and 2023 is one thing but we need more vaccines sooner so that we can prevent more lockdowns for longer.”
