Pier 26 HUDSON RIVER PARK:
In May of 2005, Gov. George Pataki announced the long-anticipated allocation of $70 million for the rebuilding of the #Tribeca portion of #HudsonRiverPark. Demolition of Tribeca’s two piers, 25 and 26, started in November of 2005.
The #HudsonRiverPark Trust launched the Tribeca-segment reconstruction in summer 2006. Funded by the #LowerManhattan Development Corporation and the State and City of #NewYork, the $100 million project is rehabilitating the piers and rebuilding the “uplands” (shore areas) from #HoustonStreet to #StuyvesantHighSchool, at the north end of #BatteryParkCity.
The first phase of the project was completed in July 2008, when the uplands adjacent to Pier 40 opened to the public. The Trust began the next construction phase south of Laight Street in fall 2008, including a renovated, landscaped waterfront esplanade with new public restrooms, skate park, basketball court, seating, dog run, lawns, and other small park buildings.
Located between Franklin and N. Moore Streets, the rebuilt #HudsonRiverPark Pier 25 will be home to a miniature golf course, beach volleyball courts, children’s playground, Water Taxi dock, and an artificial lawn on the western end. Pier 26, between N. Moore and Hubert Streets, is the planned home of a community boathouse, waterside café, and estuarium. Historic ships will be moored between the piers, while a mooring field will be available south of Pier 25
